(Cleghorn)– The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating a manure discharge from an open feedlot near Cleghorn, in Cherokee county.
The DNR says its Spencer field office received a report Friday morning of manure in Bear Creek, a tributary to Mill Creek. DNR staff arrived on the scene and confirmed the discharge.
Officials say the producer has taken action to mitigate the discharge.
DNR officials collected water samples. They add that no dead fish were observed.
DNR officials say downstream water users should avoid using water from Bear and Mill Creek for now.
They add that they’ll “evaluate enforcement action once the investigation is complete”.
