October 09, 2026

(West Bend)– A man from Rolfe, Iowa, has been charged in connection with a high speed pursuit Wednesday that went through portions of Palo Alto, Pocahontas and Humboldt counties.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office says it started shortly after 2:30 pm after deputies learned of a reckless driver on Highway 15 in West Bend. A deputy tried to pull over the vehicle, but it took off, leading authorities on a pursuit. It ended after the suspect vehicle rammed a Kossuth county law enforcement vehicle.

Authorities say 59-year-old Randal Shimon of Rolfe was then arrested on charges of felony eluding, reckless driving, speeding (125 mph in a 60 mph zone), 1st offense operating while intoxicated, 1st offense possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and several traffic violations.

Shimon was also charged in Humboldt county with assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer…a class “C” felony; and interference with official acts while armed with a dangerous weapon…a class “D” felony.
