(Spirit Lake)– There’s an important deadline coming up if you plan to request an absentee ballot for the November 3rd election. Jordan Moyer oversees elections at the Dickinson County Auditor’s Office…
“So the deadline to request an absentee ballot to be mailed out is October 19th, with the first day of being able to absentee vote is October 14th in person, and that will also be when we mail those ballots out.”
Moyer says there’s some confusion out there regarding absentee request forms people are getting in the mail…
“Some of the political parties are, that are not associated with our office even though they do have our name on there for the return address, you are getting multiple of those in the mail, and yes, you only need to fill out one.”
Moyer says there are some other things showing up in the mail that are causing confusion that pertain to voter eligibility…
“So unfortunately the verbiage on some of the mailers state that you are showing inactive, but you’re showing inactive as in not requesting an absentee ballot. You are not inactive as a voter. As long as you voted since last year for the city-school or since the presidential in ’24, as long as you have voted, you will not be made inactive or cancelled.”
Meanwhile she says the requests for absentee ballots in Dickinson county are off the chart for a mid-term election…
“We’re already shy of 800 absentee requests so far. Okay, and here again, you think this is kind of indicative of all the different things that are on the ballot? Absolutely. With the public measure on there for the city of Lake Park and also Spirit Lake schools, and then we’ve got a few contested races for federal and state, so we’ve seen a higher turnout.”
Moyer reminds everyone that you can find a wide range of information about the November 3rd election by visiting the county’s website…
“You can go onto the front page of our website and you can print out the absentee request form and you can also print that off to bring in for in-person absentee voting to be ahead of the game, too. And also we have the candidates list on their, too, so you can see who’s running, and also a ballot style on there that you can see specifically what will be on your ballot.”
In-person early voting gets underway this coming Wednesday, October 14th. More on that with our newscasts early next week.
