(Spencer)– A 94-year-old Hartley man escaped injury but faces citations following a single vehicle crash Friday on Highway 18 near Everly.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says Peter Back was driving a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound when the pickup left the road, went into the south ditch and hit a field embankment. Deputies say it then crossed the highway and went into the north ditch, colliding with a sign and barbed wire fence as it traveled into a cornfield. They say Back then backed out of the field.
He was cited for failure to maintain control and operation without registration.
Damage to the pickup was estimated at $25,000. The crash took place around 4:16 pm.
