(Sheldon)– There’s been another explosion at the Kent Feeds facility in Sheldon. This one happened early this (Thurs.) morning. It comes on the heels of one September 21st. The Sheldon Fire Department was called to the scene around 12:30 this (Thurs.) morning.
Fire Chief Brad Hindt says crews met with employees and assessed the situation. O’Brien County Emergency Management also arrived. A drone was deployed, but nothing was detected.
At about 1:00 am, Hindt says firefighters entered the facility and encountered smoke and flames coming from a cooler. Additional assistance was then requested from the Sanborn Fire Department and Sheldon Community Ambulance Team. Hindt says firefighters brought the fire under control and that a second crew of firefighters, along with some Kent Feeds employees, cut a hole in the bottom leg of the cooler on the main floor. He says it took about three hours to get product that was in the cooler transferred outside where hotspots were then extinguished.
Hindt says the cause of the explosion and fire remains under investigation, and that the damage was contained to the cooler and product. No injuries were reported. Firefighters were on the scene until about 6:00 am this (Thurs.) morning.
