(Arnolds Park)– Today (Monday) has been a busy day for Arnolds Park-Okoboji Fire/Rescue crews. Chief Chris Yungbluth says they responded to multiple calls…
“So our first call came out about 11:42 this morning to Sawmill Park in Arnolds Park for a gentleman who had fallen into a boat hoist and was injured and having difficulty getting back out of the water there. We had a crew start responding to that and within five minutes we were paged to a second call at 11:47 to 143 Shady Oaks Drive and that was for a gas leak in a home. We were able to arrive and worked with Black Hills on that to clear out the gas from the home, ventilate the home and render it safe again. We did have to shut off water and gas to the home at the time. The cause of the leak was due to a malfunctioning water heater. Nobody was injured in that one. Everybody evacuated out safely and they’ll have to have some repairs done to the water heater to get gas and water back to that residence.”
Just as crews were finishing up there, Yungbluth says they were called to assist with a single vehicle crash near the landfill east of Arnolds Park…
“We were requested by Milford Fire to respond to a motor vehicle accident kind of in an area in between our two districts and were able to help them out with that patient and patient care.”
Initial reports from that scene, in the area of 185th Street and 250th Avenue, indicated a vehicle was partially submerged in water. A person in the vehicle was reportedly extricated and transported to the hospital. Other details weren’t immediately available.
Yungbluth says crews literally went from one call right next to the other…
“Literally ran from one to the other. We split our team up a little bit for the first two because they came in so close together. And the third one we still split our team a little bit and then we were able to get back to the station and ready for the next one.”
Crews returned to the station from the third call around 1:30 pm.
