(Arnolds Park)– The Okoboji Foundation is expanding resources for families and professional advisors. Foundation President Mindy Gress says she recently became certified as a 21/64 advisor. She says it will allow her to further help individuals and families with philanthropic matters that at times can be tedious…
“Helping them really dive deep into what they value, what kind of impact they want to have, what they want their legacy to be, and even how do they bring the next generation into those conversations. I’ve been helping donors with charitable giving for 18 years now and this was a way to kind of get better at that and to really bring just more resources to our area.”
Gress says while philanthropy can be simple, the conversations behind it sometimes are not…
“The better we can help people connect with what they care about in their giving, the stronger that our community becomes. We want that generosity to be thoughtful and meaningful and connected to the needs and just the opportunities that are right here in the lakes area, so.”
She adds the goal is to simply assist families…
“What I would say at the onset is we’re not trying to replace someone’s attorney or their accountant or their financial advisers. We want them to bring us to the table. They have those great areas of expertise and we can bring kind of that charitable and community piece into that conversation.”
Gress adds individuals or families don’t necessarily need to have a firm plan in place before visiting with the Okoboji Foundation…
“If they’re thinking about giving or their family’s legacy and how they want to make a difference in the community, just come talk to us. Sometimes the conversation is the best place to start.”
Gress says the certification reflects the Okoboji Foundation’s continued commitment to professional development and bringing philanthropic knowledge and resources to the Iowa Great Lakes.
