(Emmetsburg)– Iowa Lakes Community College and Palo Alto County Health System (PACHS) announced today (Tues.) they have reached agreements totaling $500,000 that will support the future of healthcare services and related education in the region.
Under the arrangement, Palo Alto County Health System will purchase a little more than five acres of land from Iowa Lakes Community College for $109,000. It’s located just north of the hospital and south of the Ballaster dormitory on the Iowa Lakes Emmetsburg campus. PACHS officials say it will allow for a future expansion of the hospital to help meet long-term healthcare needs in the region.
In addition, PACHS will make a $391,000 donation to Iowa Lakes Community College to support development of an Emergency Room Simulation Lab on the Emmetsburg campus. College officials say it will provide students with a hands-on immersive learning environment designed to replicate situations they may encounter in the emergency department.
They say the facility will also provide emergency preparedness training and simulations in partnership with local and county emergency management services.
Iowa Lakes Community College plans to break ground on the Emergency Room Simulation Lab this coming spring.
