(Spirit Lake)– The recently increased speed limit on Highway 86 on the west side of West Lake Okoboji and the recent rash of accidents on that stretch of road is getting the attention of local officials. It was briefly brought up during this (Tues.) morning’s Dickinson County Board of Supervisors meeting. Supervisor Kim Wermersen says he’s had discussions with the County Engineer…
“He’s submitted a letter to the D.O.T sharing our concerns, so at least the D.O.T is aware that we are concerned about the change and some of those different things. Maybe they can take a look at it.”
Local officials are concerned the 60 mph limit on that stretch of Highway 86 from the north end of Milford to Highway 9 may be too high. They cite the winding nature of the road; busy intersections, and residential areas adjacent to the highway.
