(Estherville)– Add another northwest Iowa county to the list of those putting a hold on the development of any data centers.
The Emmet County Board of Supervisors Tuesday unanimously adopted a one year moratorium on such projects, even though no formal request to build a facility in the county has been received.
Board members said the county in the interim will gather additional facts, both pro and con, for data centers while the moratorium is in place. Issues that will be researched include health concerns along with energy and water usage. County officials say potential benefits will also be explored, such as tax benefits.
