(Spencer)– Buyouts of residential properties in Spencer heavily damaged or destroyed in the 2024 flood are being finalized. City Manager Kevin Robinson says 13 are enrolled through the city and Spencer Economic Development Corporation; with 26 more through FEMA…
“Timing of those funds, we believe, will be early to mid fall. We think all of the demolitions can be done before winter or into winter. Most of the contractors here can work through winter on demolitions. The demo grant we applied for with IEDA to take down the properties that were kicked out of the imminent threat program by FEMA, that application has been submitted and is in process. The indication from the state is everything looked good and it’s just a matter of going through the official approval process. That, too, those timings of the demos will be in with the other houses. From the city citizen’s standpoint, it will probably look like just one effort, doing all these demolitions, but it’s actually a series of different things. We’ll account for them differently at the landfill.”
Robinson gave the update during Monday’s Spencer City Council meeting.
