Fairmont outlasted Jackson 4-3 in Game 1 of their Region 10C semifinal playoff series at Herb Wolf Field on Wednesday.
The Bulls had the bases loaded with one out in the top of the ninth inning. The infield fly rule was called on a pop fly for the second out. The Martins let the ball drop and threw the runner from third base out at home to end the game.
Jackson scored first on a Chris Gumto RBI double in the first. The Martins tied the game in the home half. Fairmont took the lead 2-1 in the bottom of the third, added one more in the fifth, and another in the seventh. Cael Miller walked a run home and Andy Wolf delivered an RBI on his second single of the game during the Jackson rally in the ninth.
Tyler Netsch, Carter Snyder, Alex Bretzman, Blake Evans, and Easton Bahr also singled for the Bulls.
Game 2 happens on Friday at Wacker Field in Jackson and Game 3, if necessary, is back in Fairmont on Sunday.
Luverne upset Windom 4-3 at Island Park in Game 1 of their Region 10C semifinal playoff series on Wednesday.
Game 2 happens at Redbird Field in Luverne on Friday night and Game 3, if necessary, is back at Island Park in Windom on Sunday afternoon.
