(Arnolds Park)– A longstanding annual event will be taking place this weekend at Arnolds Park. Bob Faulkner of the University of Okoboji Corvette Club says the annual “Vettes In The Parks” will be going on Saturday (July 25th). He tells KUOO news they’re expecting in excess of 200 vehicles for this year’s event, which is well above previous years…
“We have a few Corvette clubs coming from Des Moines and from Rochester and a couple of other Minnesota areas so we should have a few more.”
Faulkner says Sampson Corvettes of Sanborn is sponsoring this year’s event by covering the $20 entry fee for participating Corvette owners. That’s in addition to some other incentives for owners to participate in Saturday’s event…
“We’ve got one thing going is a raffle to park on Lake Street which is kind of a premium parking spot in front of The Roof Garden, of course, and then the rest we’re going to be making a theatre around the stage, like an old movie theatre, but right in front of the stage we’re going to have every year different model made from C1 to C8 for display so they can see the difference in how Corvettes have changed over the years. And then in the cul de sac we’re going to have a couple of super cars. We’re going to have some ZR1 cars and we’re going to have a Dodge Viper and a couple of C06 Corvettes, so there will be some pretty interesting cars. A couple of them have over a thousand horsepower.”
Faulkner says this years marks a major milestone for Vettes In The Park…
“We’re going to have 30th anniversary t-shirts for sale and so for 30 years the Corvette Club’s been doing Vettes In The Park.”
He urges those planning to display to be there around 8:00 am Saturday when they’ll start parking the Corvettes…
“And we’d appreciate it if nobody comes until 8:00 because it’s going to be, as you know in the park it’s a lot of traffic and we’re going to try to be as organized as we can to get cars in as quickly as we can.”
Faulkner adds pre-registration isn’t required…
“If somebody is just driving through and wants to be in the show they can pull in. We’ll have registration there so they can sign up the day of or they can sign up on our website, University of Okoboji Corvette Club.”
He adds some awards will be presented once again this year as well…
“Four different awards for different cars that will be chosen from different people and I think it’s going to be an exciting show because it’s our 30th anniversary. We’ve got the wooden boat show the same day.”
