Dickinson County Nature Center, Nature Night Out

Friday, July 24, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Maser Monarch Lodge. Designed for adults ages 18 and older, this free date night-style event offers participants the chance to learn how to identify some of Iowa’s beautiful native plants while enjoying an evening surrounded by nature.

For adults, the evening will begin indoors at Maser Monarch Lodge, where Naturalist Ashley
Tieden will introduce participants to native wildflowers, their identifying characteristics, and
the important roles they play in local ecosystems. Following the presentation, the group will
head outdoors for a pleasant walk to see many of these plants blooming throughout Kenue
Park.

One of the highlights of the evening will be a rare opportunity to create a pressed wildflower
keepsake. Removing plants is typically prohibited on Dickinson County Conservation lands, this
supervised experience offers a unique chance to preserve a small piece of Iowa’s native
landscape.

Need childcare? While adults are exploring the world of native plants, children ages 3 and older
(must be fully potty trained) can enjoy supervised activities at the Nature Center. Kids will
spend the evening exploring Pollinator Paradise and meeting the Nature Center’s live animal
ambassadors, making it an enjoyable experience for the whole family.
