MAVERICKS HANDLE RAIDERS AT HOME

The Martin County West baseball team took care of Nicollet at home on Friday.
The Mavericks overcame nine errors for the 10-6 victory to keep the Raiders winless.
MCW built a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Raiders got one run back in the top of the second. The Mavericks added one more in the third to make it 4-1 MCW. Nicollet scored once more and then MCW added another trio for a 7-2 lead. The Raiders scored their own trio in the fifth and one more in the sixth to cut the deficit to 7-6 MCW. The Mavericks scored three runs in the home half of the sixth to make the final score.
Preston Cepress legged out a triple, batted in a run, scored once, and drew a walk. Kaleb Kennedy batted in a pair of runs with a single. Noah Meixell had one hit, one walk, and scored twice to go with six stolen bases. Kade Fennern registered one hit, one walk, and one run. Easton Kuehl walked, batted in a run, and scored once. Lyam Pytleski walked three times and scored twice. Michael McCorkell, Talon Ebeling, and Colsan Anderson each walked twice and scored once. The Mavericks drew 13 walks as a team.
Anderson got the win on the mound with two runs allowed on two hits plus six strikeouts and four walks in four innings pitched. Fennern tossed four strikeouts and one walk in two innings. McCorkell allowed four runs with one of them earned on one hit plus one strikeout and four walks in one inning.
The 2-5 Mavericks will look for back-to-back home wins on Monday against GHEC-T-ML.

MAVERICKS TRACK TEAMS FINISH 4TH IN BLUE EARTH

The Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin track and field teams each placed fourth at the Buc 6 Invite in Blue Earth on Friday.
The MCW/BO girls won a trio of events.
Mylee Larson won the Shot Put with a personal record. Sophia Peterson did the same in Discuss with Larson finishing fourth. Evelynn Christenson controlled the 3200 Meter Run again with her season best.
The MCW/BO girls scored 87 team points. Blue Earth Area was the top girls team with 145 points.
The MCW/BO boys had a trio of runner-up performances.
Lixon Forsberg finished second in the Long Jump. Kane Wohlhuter did the same in the Pole Vault with a personal best. Elliot Reynolds, Braxton Faber, Marek Mulder, and Brody Cook put the young 4×800 Relay team in second as well.
The MCW/BO boys scored 64 team points as USC/Alden-Conger collected 160 for the event win.
