(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved the county’s 5-year road construction program for fiscal years 2027-2031. County Engineer Jeff Rose tells KUOO news about some of the projects…
“For fiscal year ’27, we’re looking at a couple of ’26 projects which include M56 that we’ve previously talked about, M34, the Winterboer Bridge and the Lower Gar Bridge and then along with that in fiscal year ’27 we’re going to replace a box culver on N14 two miles north of Terril, and then a box culvert on the northeast side of Terril that is part of the joint 61 Branch 399 West project that Jacobson-Westergard is working on. As we move to fiscal year ’28, we’re looking at doing some residential streets in Francis Sites, Loch Nolls, Stakeout Road, and what they call the Derner Road on the southwest side of Milford. Moving to fiscal year ’29, we’re looking at some culverts on joint 61 north of Terril, as well as the Gould Bridge at this point. Fiscal year ’30 we’re looking at some more residential streets: Center Lake, 215th Street, 155th, some roads on the east side of Highway 86. Then going into fiscal year ’31 we’re looking at some roads in Triboji and a few culverts on the west side of the county as well as the southeast corner of the county.”
Rose says a number of things are taken into consideration when putting the plan together…
“Basically we kind of look at which roads are needing some sort of maintenance to it or large improvement. I’ve been kind of working with the staff that’s been here since I haven’t been here very long, kind of seeing what the needs are. Each year as things get done on the program, we pull in projects that are to be done further in the future.”
He adds the five-year program tends to be a work in progress…
“As things change throughout the years some things may be moved up, some might be pushed off. It’s just kind of a work in progress type of plan right now.”
The projects are funded through a variety of means, including a special bridge fund for those types of projects, along with road use tax revenue, farm to market funds, and local funds.
