Estherville Traffic Stop Lands Terril Man In Jail On Drug & Weapon Charges

April 10, 2026

(Estherville)– A traffic stop Thursday in Estherville landed a Terril man in jail on drug and weapons charges. Police Chief Brent Shatto says it stems from a report officers received a little before 5:30 pm of a driver operating with a suspended license. The vehicle was pulled over in the 200 block of South 1st Street. It was also discovered the vehicle was pulling a trailer with no lights or license plates on it.

48-year-old Richard Ross of Terril, was arrested for driving with a suspended license. Upon further investigation the Estherville Police Department’s K-9, Pepper, was called to the scene and indicated there were illegal substances in the vehicle. A search turned up methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and three firearms including a sawed-off shotgun that was loaded.

Ross was booked into the Emmet county jail on charges of driving with a suspended license, operating a non-registered vehicle, failure to provide proof of financial liability, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a short-barreled shotgun…a class “D” felony.
