(Spirit Lake)– Findings of a State Auditor’s report into Dickinson county’s finances are raising some eyebrows. 11 discrepancies were turned up in the report that covered the period through June of last year. Five of those are repeated from the prior year.
The concerns include a lack of segregation of duties in several departments, meaning only one person is overseeing cash transactions. In addition, two county departments were found to have given employee bonuses without authorization from the Board of Supervisors.
Another concern was over some paid services a former Sheriff’s Deputy was providing to the county. The report states that is a potential conflict of interest under Iowa law. The deputy no longer works for the Sheriff’s Office and the county has switched vendors.
