MAVERICKS STAMPEDE KNIGHTS IN SEASON OPENER

Maddie Carlson made a little history as the Martin County West softball team opened the season with a big road win on Thursday.

The Mavericks routed Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons 15-0 in four innings by run rule.

MCW led off the game with eight runs in the first inning, added one in the second and third, and collected five in the fourth.

Maddie Carlson started the day with her 500th career strikeout as she and Sydney Clow combined for a no-hitter. Carlson tossed seven strikeouts and one walk in three innings. Clow struck out the side in the fourth.

Carlson also smashed a three-run homer in the fourth as part of a two-hit day. Bailey Larson collected four hits and batted in a pair of runs. Courtney Anderson had three hits and plated one run. Rowan Faber had a pair of hits and brought home one run. Addy Wohlhuter smacked a two-run double. Ida Rohman had a triple.

The 1-0 Mavericks visit Windom Area on Friday and we will have that game on the air. It’s the Eagles season opener as they look to improve upon a 13-win campaign from last year which included an 11-10 shootout road loss to MCW. Coverage begins at 4:15 with the first pitch at 4:30 on Xtreme.
