(Jackson, Mn.)– Some special events later this month in Jackson and Cottonwood counties will be focused on community connections and belonging. Cay Gjertsen, President of the Jackson Center For The Arts, says the project, dubbed “A Peace of my Mind”, will feature John Noltner, a world renown artist, author and photographer…
“John is going to be here and what he does is he takes photographs of people along with a quote that they write. Here in Jackson it’s going to be about belonging, when is a time you felt that you belonged? It takes less than 15 minutes but on Wednesday the 22nd from 1:00 to 5:00 we’ll be open at the art center and people who sign up can come in and have their photograph taken and their quote and then he will put that together into an art show for Jackson.”
Dr. Janette Simon of Des Moines Valley Health and Human Services, which is also putting on the event, says Noltner’s previous works will be on display at the Jackson Center For The Arts beginning Monday, April 20th with an opening reception that evening from 7:00 until 8:30 pm…
“Now that exhibit he’ll set up is also going to be set up there all week so whenever they’re open people can drop in and look at the exhibit. This project has been presented at the Nobel Peace Prize Forum. He’s been at the National Civil Rights Museum with his exhibits. So this is going to be really exciting for us. You can stop in and get a chance to meet him on Monday night and see the exhibit, but the exhibits will be set up at the art center all week and also at the Cottonwood County Historical Society all week.”
Noltner will also show a video of his work in Jackson and will speak at another event scheduled for 7:00 pm Thursday, April 23rd at the Jackson Historic Theatre.
Noltner will also be putting on some writing and story telling workshops Wednesday, January 22nd at 10:00 am at the Jackson Center For The Arts and Friday, April 24th, at 10:00 am at the Cottonwood County Historical Society in Windom.
The events are being offered free of charge thanks to a number of sponsors.
