DNR Accepting Bids On Wetland Restoration Project In Iowa Great Lakes

April 02, 2026

(Undated)– The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is accepting bids on a major wetland restoration project in the Iowa Great Lakes. It involves eight wetland areas on the Reed Wildlife Management Unit Property about a half mile east of East Lake Okoboji, just east of Arnolds Park and immediately north of the landfill. The Spring Run complex is adjacent to the site, along with other natural areas on East Lake Okoboji and Upper Gar Lake.

A request for proposals says the project includes construction of a wetland dike, excavation, tile manipulation, installation of a water control structure, erosion control, tree removal and construction of a parking lot.

The DNR is accepting bids up until 11:00 am Thursday, April 23rd. The work is scheduled for completion in early September, 2026.

The Lake Restoration Program through the state of Iowa is contributing $150,000 toward the project. Ducks Unlimited is also a partner.
