The Martin County West baseball team started the season in Adrian on Tuesday.
The Mavericks lost a 21-5 decision to Adrian/Ellsworth in five innings.
MCW started the game by building a 3-0 lead in the top of the first and kept that lead until the bottom of the second. The Dragons collected nine runs in that frame, added 10 more in the third, and posted another pair in the fourth to make a 21-3 advantage. MCW took a pair of runs back in the top of the fifth to make the final score.
The 0-1 Mavericks have their home opener against Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda on Tuesday.
