(Orleans)– Additional construction will be taking place this spring in Orleans. Mayor Bill Maas says the continuation of the 140th Street project along the southwest side of Big Spirit Lake is among them. He says crews will pick up from where the work left off last fall and proceed east to the pump house and Hill Avenue intersection…
“It was quite an inconvenience for those people that live there and it’s still been an inconvenience this winter at least with their mailboxes and stuff, but we have a lot of nice people in Orleans and most of them have been very accepting as far as tolerating what’s been going on. We’re trying to schedule it so that it has as few inconveniences as possible. Another project we’ve got going is we do have to replace part of a water main, or at least the company that we have leased our supply lines to, down by the hatchery. So getting both of those started hopefully next week hopefully will get most of that stuff out of the way so that it doesn’t inconvenience people any longer than possible.”
Another major project includes work on Beach Avenue, near the Fish Hatchery…
“That whole street has just been a short little gravel street. We had a city dock at the end of the street but we decided we want to make that more handicap accessible and are spending quite a bit of money to fix that up and also to do some improvements in a little city park that’s north of city hall a couple of blocks. We want to make it as convenient as possible for people. Hopefully what we’ll be able to do is at least on the one south of the hatchery, people will be able to use it not only to fish but also to launch canoes and kayaks, which is something becoming more popular as we go along.”
The Beach Avenue project is being done in conjunction with the DNR improvements at Isthmus Park.
