(Undated)– Things have been gradually getting back somewhat to normal across the region this (Mon.) morning.
County and state road crews have been busy getting roads opened back up following Sunday’s blizzard. While it didn’t really put down that much snow, it’s the freezing rain and sleet that occurred at the onset Saturday night and Sunday’s strong wind that really caused the problem, creating drifts in some areas that were several feet deep. Numerous vehicles became stuck and were left abandoned as a result. But at least in Dickinson county, there were no reports of anyone getting stranded in vehicles overnight. Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Ehret…
“I haven’t been made aware of anybody that maybe had to spend the night in their car or anything. Like I said we do have several disabled vehicles around the county where people got stuck in snowdrifts or what not. I don’t know of anybody that had to spend the night in their car, however.”
In Jackson, the National Guard Armory was opened Sunday night to accommodate stranded motorists there.
Towing companies remain busy removing vehicles from roadsides and ditches. Motorists are urged to be on the lookout in areas where that’s going on and should be prepared for delays.
