Red Bulls Looking to Upset Postseason Order

The Martin County wrestling team begins the Section 3AA Tournament in Windom on Thursday night.

The 7-13 Red Bulls are the #6 seed in the bracket. They begin the postseason against #3 seed Worthington. Martin County is still seeking a section victory after seven duals this season. The Red Bulls are led by a pair of state-ranked wrestlers in Pierce Rohman and Torrey Paplow. The 5-16 Trojans have their only two section wins over the Red Bulls with a 44-30 win on December 4 at home and 35-33 victory on January 8 in Fairmont. The Red Bulls last made the State Tournament as a team in 2022. The Trojans are seeking their first trip to State since 2017. 

The winner will face hosting #2 seed Windom Area/Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin. The 14-11 Cobras have a 3-4 section record. They earned home wins 39-30 over Martin County on January 2 and 43-19 over Worthington on January 6. The Cobras are led by state-ranked Kameron Koerner. They last made the State Tournament in 2012.

New Ulm is the top seed in the South subsection with a home dual against the winner of South #4 St. James-Madelia and South #5 Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial. Marshall is the top North seed with North #4 seed Hutchinson/Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart and #5 MAHACA in town on Thursday. United is the #2 North seed hosting North #3 seed New London-Spicer. 

Four teams will advance to Saturday in Fairmont with the semifinals at 12:30 p.m. and the section championship at 2:30 p.m. with the champion going to the State Tournament.
