Eagles Take Down Huskies For Big South Title

New Ulm Area is the Big South Conference team champion for the first time since 1999 after staying unbeaten with a home win over Jackson County Central on Thursday night. 

The Black division champion Eagles started the night with wins by decision and major decision. Jacob Peterson pinned the Gold division champion Huskies onto the scoreboard to make it 7-6 Eagles. New Ulm earned a pair of technical falls to extend the lead to 20-6. Kyler Thier responded with a tech fall of his own to make it 20-11 New Ulm. The Eagles got another pin. Evan Bartholomaus earned a pin of his own to make it 26-17 Eagles. Another pin nearly clinched the dual for New Ulm. Carson Kolander won by decision. The Eagles capped the night with a pair of decisions to make the 39-20 final score. 

The 14-3 Huskies host a Friday quadrangular on Jackson County Hall of Fame Night. Tracy-Milroy-Balaton/Westbrook-Walnut Grove, Fulda/Murray County Central, and the Martin County Red Bulls are taking part in the event. 

Our coverage begins at 4:45 with the first action on the mat at 5:00 on KKOJ Radio and Explore Live Video. The Hall of Fame begins serving a fundraiser meal at 5:00 as well. Rick VanderWoude and Derek Harwood will be inducted in the Class of 2026. There is also a “Meet The Huskies” poster signing event after all matches are complete.
