(Jackson, Mn.)– Jackson County Commissioners are gathering public input into a possible ordinance that would restrict certain firearms during the deer hunting season. It stems from action by the Minnesota Legislature that repealed the Minnesota deer hunting shotgun zone as of January 1st of this year. It allows for the use of all legal firearms in the former deer hunting shotgun zone.
Don Wachal, Chairman of the Jackson County Commissioners, says they’ll be holding a public hearing later this month on either accepting the shotgun zone repeal or adopting a shotgun-only ordinance. He says no action will be taken during the hearing, set for 10:00 am Tuesday, February 17th at the Jackson Public Library…
“Like I say then, we’ll just absorb that data and make a decision in coming months. We have to have one by the first of May, I think it is, to get published into the hunting book, what we are and how we do it in our county. In regards to that, every county we’ve been talking to, that’s probably the weirdest thing, is everybody going to do it or not? We don’t know yet and they’re all going through this same thing. To me the enforcement could be kind of tricky if we have it and Nobles doesn’t and Martin and everybody’s different, so. That’s the issues that are coming into play, too, you know. We all want to try to do it the same.”
