(Arnolds Park)– Cold weather didn’t deter people from attending the various events associated with this past weekend’s 46th Annual University of Okoboji Winter Games. Morgan Strauss of the Iowa Great Lakes Chamber says numbers were on par with previous years…
“I think we had just about the same turnout as years past and we were just super excited to see everyone and have another great event. We did have 107 crazy people that wanted to jump in for the Polar Plunge, so that’s always exciting to watch as well.”
Strauss also gives a rundown on the results of this year’s Chili Cook-off…
“So the overall chili winner was Goliath Discs, so they get to keep that trophy for another year. Second overall actually was Spirit Lake Noon Kiwanis, so they won Best Nonprofit, and then for our booth this year, Grace Lutheran Church, so they’re also keeping that trophy for the best booth for another year running.”
Strauss says they hope to have results from all the other events and tournaments posted at uofowintergames.com a little bit later on today (Mon.)
And when it comes to the weather, officials say this by far wasn’t the coldest year for winter games. One year the actual air temperature was -22 degrees.
Strauss again thanks all those who worked behind the scene to make sure things went off without a hitch this past weekend. She adds preparations are already underway for next year’s U of O Winter Games events, which are scheduled for January 28th-31st, 2027.
