(Des Moines)– The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will hold a series of informational meetings in February and March to discuss hunting and trapping seasons and possible rule changes. Locally, sessions are scheduled for March 3rd at 6:30 pm at the Spencer Campus of Iowa Lakes Community College and the following evening, March 4th at 6:00 pm, at Maser Monarch Lodge just west of the Dickinson County Nature Center in Okoboji.
Todd Bishop, chief of the Iowa DNR’s Wildlife Bureau, says comments at the meetings will be compiled prior to any changes being proposed to hunting rules and regulations. Any changes will be submitted to the Natural Resource Commission for consideration and additional public comment.
Bishop says input from previous listening sessions resulted in modifying and removing areas closed to Canada goose hunting, establishing later goose season dates and increased bag limit, expansion of the raccoon hunting and trapping season on private land, modifying Iowa’s antlerless deer quotas in north central and western Iowa, and extending the regular trapping season through the end of February.
