A SW Minnesota Ethanol Plant Has Been Fined For Alleged Violations Of Air Quality Permit

October 23, 2025

(Heron Lake, Mn.)– A southwest Minnesota ethanol plant has been fined slightly more than $18,000 by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency for alleged violations of an air quality permit. The agency says it stemmed from an investigation at Heron Lake BioEnergy LLC.

In a press release, the MPCA says the plant has taken corrective measures to get back into compliance. Those include substituting some additives; reduced production; development of a performance plan, regular emissions testing and submission of performance testing to the MPCA.
