(Louisiana)– A former Spirit Lake restaurant owner has been sentenced to life in prison without parole in Louisiana.
Choi Van Leo was convicted in that state on sex crimes involving children from 4 to 12 years of age. Prosecutors say the incidents took place over eight years.
Van Leo, who also owned an Asian American restaurant in Louisiana, fled that state 25 years ago after learning that there warrants out for his arrest. Authorities in Louisiana learned Leo was likely living in Iowa, and he was arrested by police in Spirit Lake in May of last year.
