Many Voices Choir Christmas Concert Series

Sunday, December 1st, 3:30 pm: St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bancroft

Admission to all concerts is free, a free-will donation will be accepted. 

The “The Work of Christmas” concert series will feature this piece which is based on the poem by Howard Thurman, “When the song of the angels is stilled, when the star in the sky is gone…. the work of Christmas begins.” Schumacher describes the piece as “a beautiful closing benediction to the Christmas celebration. It suggests that we are not merely to take in the sights and sounds of Christmas, but be inspired to respond by working toward peace on earth.” Other program highlights include the reverent Latin Christmas masterpiece, “O Magnum Mysterium” by Morten Lauridsen, an energetic Austrian carol “As Lately We Watched” arranged by Kirby Shaw, and a Celtic piece by Mark Hayes, “Shepherd’s Joy” featuring cellist Randy Nelson. DJ Gommels will accompany the choir and instrumentalist Joan Gronstal, flutist, will make notable appearances throughout the performances.

Established in 1988, the Many Voices Choir comprises 40-60 members from over 15 communities in northwest Iowa and southern Minnesota. One member states, that “Singing these carols is a deeply inspirational way of expressing the story of the nativity and birth of Jesus Christ.”
