Have you wanted to learn how to kayak but didn’t know how to get started? This is the perfect opportunity to learn the basics! The Dickinson County Nature Center is partnering with local kayak instructor Mark Foss to bring you Intro to Kayaking. Lessons will go from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and occur on the following dates: July 10th, 22nd, 24th, and 31st.
Environmental Education Coordinator Danika Cox anticipates that attendees will take advantage of the classes to build their skill set and become comfortable on the water.
“This is a great opportunity for those looking to get some hands-on kayaking experience before hitting the water on their own,” Cox said.
Attendees can look forward to a safe learning environment and skills that will form the foundation of a life-long aquatic hobby.
Cox stated, “Mark does a great job of teaching you proper techniques and safety to build your confidence in water recreation.”
Registrants need to be at least 15 years old, and anyone under 18 must have an adult attend the class with them. Kayaks and paddles will be provided by Mark, but registrants are allowed to bring their own kayak as long as it is 10 feet long. Attendees must have their own life jacket that will be worn the entire time on the water. Please dress appropriately to be on open water and pack a full water bottle for the event. The location of the lesson will be sent to attendees prior to the event due to wind direction and weather conditions.
All sessions are identical, and the fee is $40. Visit www.dickinsoncountynaturecenter.com to register or learn more, or call (712) 336-6352. Like our Facebook and Instagram pages to keep up with the latest updates at the Dickinson County Nature Center.
