Thursday, July 11, 2024 – 10:30am
Do you want to know more about the history of Spirit Lake, Abbie Gardner, and Inkpaduta? Join Dickinson County Nature Center staff for Kenue Coffee Hour on Thursday, July 11th, at 10:30 a.m. As always, there will be a light coffee bar at the Maser Monarch Lodge and plenty of conversation.
Dr. Kevin Mason, Assistant Professor of History at Waldorf University, will speak about the events of Inkpaduta, Abbie Gardner Sharp, and the Spirit Lake Massacre. Dr. Mason is a historian who is well acquainted with the story; he defended his dissertation on this topic in 2020.
Staff anticipate the audience will be intrigued by the stories unfolding long ago.
“I am hoping participants will gain a better understanding of the conflict that occurred and learn more about the history of Spirit Lake,” said Danika Cox, environmental education coordinator.
“This is part of our local history. We get a chance to learn more about what really happened and how it shaped our people and landscape,” stated Cox.
Join us at the lodge for coffee and take a fascinating journey through history. Remember, no registration is required for Kenue Coffee Hour. For more information, visit www.dickinsoncountynaturecenter.com. You can also keep up on the latest happenings on Facebook and Instagram.
