It will be 50 years this fall since the Northwestern Red Raiders appeared in the school’s first NAIA Division II national championship game. Despite losing that game the Raiders went on to win the national championship in 1973. Former Raider players, from the team years of 1967 through 1973, will be having a reunion on September 10th to celebrate the championship as well as the contribution from the teams of the prior years. Also, we will be honoring our head coach Larry Korver.
Curt Krull has written a book about those years that started with a record of 0-7-1 in 1967 and ended with the 71-73 teams combining for 28 wins in 29 games including a national runner-up finish and a national title. “The Journey to Our Unknown” will be ready for distribution later this month.
