(Okoboji)-There’s a big regatta on West Okoboji this weekend. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Okoboji Yacht Club will host the 2024 C Scow National Championship this weekend.
Commodore Jane Hopkins says about 50 boats will be competing. “The Okoboji Yacht Club and The Okoboji Sailing Center have a long history of promoting sailing and water safety on West Lake Okoboji. We have regular sailing races on Saturdays and Sundays, and this coming weekend, June 14-16, we have the opportunity to host over 50 boats from 7 states across the country joining us to participate in the C Scow Nationals. This is a very competitive regatta and you will have sailboats with 2 or 3 sailors on them in the middle of West Lake Okoboji competing to win the C National Regatta, which is a very coveted honor.”
She adds that boaters are urged to slow down near the race course. “We’re really excited to host this regatta and we also hope that our boating community will be respectful of our sailors and stay on the edges of the course. Please, slow your boats down. No wakes please!”
The Regatta will start at 10 o’clock Friday morning, weather permitting.
