(Estherville)-Area animal shelters are seeking foster homes for adoptable pets. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
Pet Shelters in Northwest Iowa are seeking help from the public to foster pets.
Kristy Henning, Director of The Emmet County Animal Shelter says they are overwhelmed. “We are getting, almost every day, somebody calling looking to surrender their dog, and our adoptions are down to the point where we just aren’t having dogs move out that much. So, the math doesn’t work. I mean, we can’t take in the dogs almost every day, and have a dog go out every other week. It doesn’t work. So, what we’ve all been asking the public for, and for quite some time is, if you can step up and foster, that will help us help more. There’s a lot of commitment to fostering, but there’s a lot of joy in fostering, a lot of benefits in fostering, not only for the pet for the family. We just need help. We need help right now.”
She adds that those considering surrendering their pet, should contact the shelters first. “Do you need some financial assistance for some medical issue? Are you having a hard time right now and you need food assistance? Do you need a kennel? Let us help you figure that out so you can keep your dog.”
