(Arnolds Park)– If there’s a Winter Games event you’re interested in and haven’t signed up yet, you may want to do that soon. Blain Andera of the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce says some of those are almost full…
“Registration is open. There are several events that are close to maxed out already, so if you want to enter a softball team or a broomball team or anything like that you need to make sure to get registered sooner than later at uofowintergames.com. Also, registration with, you know, things you think about that you have to have a ticket for, one of the things is the chili cook-off sponsored by Hinn Real Estate. Chili mugs are now available at Hy-Vee and the Spirit Lake Chamber of Commerce, at The Three Sons in Milford and at the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber.”
And when it comes to popular Winter Games attractions, Andera says the giant kites will be back again this year…
“One of the big questions that we always have is when are the kites going to be here? When are the kites going to be here? They’re going to be starting on Thursday and run all day Friday, Saturday and some of Sunday, weather permitting, on those days. Over 34 kite flyers coming in from four different countries this year to help fly these gigantic kites and it’s going to be an amazing site.”
And even though frigid temperatures are in the forecast, Andera says they’ll continue to closely monitor ice conditions and still haven’t ruled out the possibility of some changes being made…
“Safety is the primary concern for the chamber and, you know, we’re inviting all of these folks here we want to make sure everyone’s safe. But we’re going to be monitoring the ice out there and working with the DNR and the cities. Yeah, looking forward to a good time whether it’s on the ice or not.”
Winter Games are now just a little more than just two weeks away.
