(Truesdale)– A two vehicle collision this (Friday) morning in Buena Vista county claimed the lives of two people. It happened at the intersection of Highway 71 an 550th Street, east of Truesdale, shortly after 7:00 am.
The Iowa State Patrol says 30-year-old Mayra Lopez-Zapala was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Trax eastbound on 550th Street, when she pulled into the path of a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup driven by 47-year-old Jeffrey Kies of Sioux Rapids who was southbound on Highway 71.
The driver of the car, 30-year-old Mayra Lopez-Zavala, and a passenger, 62-year-old Maria Zavala-Saldana, both of Storm Lake, died in the crash.
Kies was treated on the scene for minor injuries and was released.
