Highway 18 Collision Sends Two People To The Hospital

December 13, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Boyden)– Two people were injured in a three vehicle collision Tuesday morning on Highway 18 two miles west of Boyden. The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says 60-year-old Wade Haarsma of Boyden was driving a 2011 Ford Ranger westbound. Deputies say another vehicle, driven by a 16-year-old from Sheldon, was behind Haarsma and that 57-year-old David Van Egdom of Hull was driving a 2011 Chevrolet eastbound. They say Haarsma had stopped at an intersection to wait for oncoming traffic before turning when the vehicle driven by the 16-year-old collided with Haarsma’s vehicle. The vehicle driven by the 16-year-old then went into the eastbound lane and collided with the one driven by Van Egdom.

The 16-year-old and Van Egdom were taken by ambulance to the Sheldon hospital. Haarsma declined immediate treatment.

The teen was cited for following too closely.
