December 12, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Sheldon)– A Bigelow, MN man has been arrested on felony identity theft charges in Sheldon. A criminal complaint accuses 49-year-old Gabriel Garcia Roman of Bigelow of using fake ID documents to gain employment. He was arrested on Thursday.

Garcia Roman was stopped after an officer saw him driving over the center line. The officer says Garcia Roman showed many signs of nervousness during the stop. A consent search of the vehicle turned up a social security card, a fake Oregon ID, and a fake residency card. The officer says Garcia Roman admitted that the items were not his and that he had purchased them. He had been using the social security number that was not his for three years for employment purposes.

Garcia Roman was charged with identity theft, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison. His first court date is Tuesday, December 19th. He has since been released from jail after posting a bond.
