(Spirit Lake)-It’s the final push for a local toy drive. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
Exit Realty Midwest has partnered with Upper Des Moines Opportunity to provide toys to children in need this holiday season.
Nancy Vierkant says they’re collecting new, unwrapped toys. “This is, I believe, our third year that we’ve been doing that with them, to have an annual toy drive. So, we are collecting new, unwrapped toys at our office. You can drop those off and then we will get those delivered to Upper Des Moines and they are able to use those for the holidays as well as, they have a really cool birthday room, because, of course, as we’ve learned, kids just don’t need gifts at the holiday time, we actually have needs throughout the year. So, it’s able to help stock their shelves throughout the year, not just during the holidays.”
She adds that there’s a special need for older children. “So this year we are doing a little bit of concentration, although they can use gifts for any age children. They did indicate that one of the needs they have this year is for those children that from that age 10 and up. So, they’re really looking for things that are hands-on, which are so encouraging for our young people today. Things like science kits and craft kits and things that they can actually learn from and decorate their rooms. I thought this was some great information that we got from Jason at Upper Des Moines.”
Toys may be dropped off at Exit Realty Midwest in Spirit Lake through Monday, December 11.
