Housing Study Underway In Lake Park

November 24, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Lake Park)– A housing study is underway in Lake Park. Mayor Matt Carstensen says the city council has commissioned Iowa State University to conduct the study…

“We know for a fact that part of what limits us to grow currently is the fact that we don’t have enough houses. So with doing the housing study it’s going to identify where they believe our greatest needs are and we’ll rely heavily on that when it comes to trying to draw developers into town to build some additional housing.”

Carstensen says the construction of a new elementary school and improvements to the existing middle school-high school facility approved earlier this month by voters will also be a big factor in the study…

“I must tell you that as a Mayor and business owner in Lake Park, I think that the fact that so many people chose to support this bond issue speaks volumes for what the city believes in and what the people believe in. I think it’s very exciting. I think that, you know, you can address the issue of housing with, after the study is done, talk with developers and say look, we’re going to build a new school and we had 75 percent of the people that were in favor of it. So I think that, you know, when you’ve to that type of positive attitude in town you can accomplish a lot of things.”

Carstensen says the study should be done in about six months.
