City Officials In Spencer Say They’re Better Prepared For Train Derailment Thanks To Recent Training

November 09, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– City officials in Spencer say they’re better prepared now in the event of a train derailment, thanks to a recent training exercise. Mayor Steve Bomgaars says he was impressed with the drill that was coordinated by Clay County Emergency Management and Canadian Pacific Railroad…

“We had a representative from the railroad here, we had several community partners here as well, and these table top simulations obviously, we hope we never have to go through anything like that, but it was phenomenal to see everybody be able to handle the response in such a professional manner whenever a new wrinkle is put into those simulations. And I’m always impressed with everybody’s actions and responsibility with regard to that.”

The training exercise was held October 24th.
