(Algona)– Highly pathogenic avian influenza, or HPAI, has been confirmed in yet another county in the region. The USDA says a positive case has been identified in a breeding flock in Kossuth county.
HPAI has also been confirmed recently in Buena Vista, Clay and Pocahontas counties.
Governor Kim Reynolds has issued a disaster proclamation for Kossuth county in response to the latest discovery.
Officials say the recent HPAI detections in birds do no present an immediate public health concern and that it remains safe to consume poultry products. Producers who suspect signs of HPAI in their flocks should contact their veterinarian immediately.
