Fiery Crash Near Rock Rapids Injures Juveniles

November 02, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Rock Rapids)– An investigation is underway into a fiery crash Wednesday near Rock Rapids that injured three juveniles.

The Iowa State Patrol says a 2006 Chevrolet Impala was being driven westbound on 160th Street. Troopers say the driver lost control of the vehicle where the pavement turns to gravel. The vehicle then went into the ditch and rolled multiple times, coming to rest on its roof. It then started on fire.

One of the three juveniles, who’s names haven’t been released, was seriously injured and was taken to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Another was taken by ambulance to the Rock Rapids hospital. A media release says a third juvenile was also injured but apparently wasn’t taken to the hospital.

The crash took place a little after 3:30 pm.
