(Arnolds Park)-Renovations on the Queen II will start next week. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Queen II Excursion Boat will undergo renovations over the winter months.
Arnolds Park Amusement Park CEO Jon Pausley says, the vessel will undergo extensive repairs. “Her Majesty had a few mechanical issues that took her out for about a third of the season, and about 3 weeks before the end of The Amusement Park season, one of the blocks on the engines cracked, so that took us out for the rest of the year. We decided we need to put some new engines and a new generator and just refurbish Her Majesty. So, over the wintertime, we’re going to be pulling her up on the beach at Arnolds Park. Interstate Power out of Sioux Falls is going to be coming in and putting in 2 new engines and a new generator. We’re gonna get all new electrical and some new equipment in there for safety features, and just for our Captains for better navigation, and make sure that the Queen is up and running for next season and then for many more years to come.”
He notes that the restoration process will start October 24. “We are going to be pulling the Queen out of the water and then the renovations will begin soon after. So, it’s going to be happening all over the wintertime and then by next season, we’re going to have her back out there sailing the waters of West Lake, pulling on the horn and making sure that everybody knows that summer is ready to begin, because it doesn’t start until the Queen is sailing the water.”
He added that The Park will share updates on the progress of the restoration regularly over the winter months.
