()Okoboji)-Jimmy Ryan will perform at Pearson Lakes Art Center Tuesday night.
KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame LIfetime Achievement Award Winner Jimmy Ryan will bring his one man show to Pearson Lakes Art Center Tuesday evening.
Ryan got his big break early on as Carly Simon’s guitarist, and says, that led to working with some of the world’s biggest stars. “I’ve had the honor of working with Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Cat Stevens, Jim Croce, Rod Stewart, I can’t even remember half the people but, just such an honor, and most of this came from introductions with Carly. Carly, my big sister, one of my best friends, was so kind to me. She just brought me to all this stuff and I met these people and ended up recording with them. So, you know, I owe her a tremendous amount of gratitude.”
Ryan has documented his stories in his book, The Superstar Chronicles, which he incorporates into his show. “In my one man show which I call Heroes Behind the Hits, I talk about how records are created. I go into that in the book and I go into it in the show, but in the show I actually demonstrate. You’re So Vain was not finished when we started recording it. Carly was still writing it. So, it’s up to the musicians on the session to come up with the parts, to come up with something that makes the song unique, that makes it stand out from other songs.”
Jimmy Ryan will take the stage at 7:30 Tuesday evening.
