Absentee Voting In City/School Elections Gets Underway October 18th

October 04, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– Absentee voting in the November 7th school and city elections in Iowa gets underway October 18th. Jordan Moyer of the Dickinson County Auditor’s Office says that’s also the earliest their office can send out absentee ballots requested through the mail…

“We only have five days to mail out the absentee ballots which starts October 18th and we have five days so that lands on the 23rd. We cannot mail it after that at all.”

Early voting will also be available in person beginning October 18th at the Dickinson County Auditor’s Office during regular office hours Monday through Friday. Moyer says they’re expecting a big turnout…

“We’ve got a couple of contested races and we also have a big public measure as well in one of the other jurisdictions so we plan on higher numbers, not only absentee but also on election day because everybody likes that feel of going to your polling place on election day and casting that ballot and getting that I voted sticker.”

Moyer reminds everyone you will need to present identification, such as a driver’s license, before voting. She also says any ballots being sent through the mail need to be returned to their office no later than 8:00 pm November 7th.
