Semi Mishap Injures May City Man

September 26, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Hartley)– A May City man was injured this past Friday when a semi he was driving rolled.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office says 30-year-old Zachary Espey was driving a 1993 Freightliner eastbound on Highway 18 about two miles west of Hartley and was attempting to make a turn when the semi tractor and trailer loaded with dried distillers grain overturned, coming to rest on its roof in the ditch, spilling some of the contents.

Espey was taken by ambulance to Sanford Sheldon Hospital.

Damage to the Freightliner was estimated at $50,000.

Espey was cited for failure to reduce speed to a reasonable and proper level. The mishap took place around 11:20 am.
